Bahçeşehir K-12 School, located in Bahçeşehir,
İstanbul was founded in 1994. Our mission
is to become one of the leading educational
institutions in Turkey that will foster
students who:
• master the skills and knowledge
to keep abreast of and steer the rapid changes
of the 21st century
• have grasped the significance and
value of the establishment and existence
of the Turkish Republic
• are adept at accessing information
and demonstrate the ability to extend and
expand upon it
• are able to synthesize previous
knowledge with cutting edge innovations
• are able to communicate in at least
two foreign languages accurately and fluently
• have developed a sense of self-awareness
and the ability to express their thoughts
coherently.
Our vision is to equip our students
with the skills to:
• become a world-wide brand in the
field of education by enabling our students
not only to keep abreast of state of the
art information systems and technology but
also by inspiring them to become leading
innovators.
• be at the forefront of Turkish education
by the year 2010 through the establishment
of 50 schools embracing a modern educational
environment and a cadre of highly qualified
personel.
The number of Bahçeşehir K-12 schools throughout
Turkey has multiplied rapidly since the
year 2003. We now have three schools in
İstanbul (Bahçeşehir, Yeşilköy and Florya)
and a school in each of the following cities:
Kocaeli, Burhaniye, Bursa, Uşak, Konya,
Kastamonu, Antalya, Alanya and Van. It is
our aim is to have established 50 schools
within the next five years.
We take great pride in the fact that further
to staying abreast of the latest educational
developments, we also research and design
our own educational models in order to become
a world-wide brand in the field of education.
One such example is that as of the academic
year 2007-2008, all of our schools will
be applying the Individualised Learning
Styles Model.
The Learning Styles Inventory was developed
by Barbara Prashnig, Director of the Creative
Learning Center and aims to determine the
individual learning styles of all students
in order to plan the educational process
accordingly to fit each student’s personal
needs. Professor Prashnig has held many
training programs on individualised learning
and teaching methods for our teachers. As
a result, we now have the systems in place
for all our students to take the Individualised
Learning Styles Inventory Test.
Bahçeşehir Schools have also been working
in close colloboration with Prof. Dr. Kikumi
Tatsuoka, member of the Faculty of Education,
Columbia University. Dr. Tatsuoka who has
introduced a new perspective in the area
of measurement and evaluation through her
"Diagnostic Measurement Model".
Bahçeşehir Uğur Education Institutions
have developed the "Smart Measurement and
Learning Support System" (AKORD) based on
Professor Tatsuoka’s research.
This new system focuses on "why" rather
than "how many" mistakes each student makes
on their tests. We are interested in finding
out the reasons underlying the mistakes
the students make in the test rather than
how many mistakes each student made on the
test. It is through this process that we
can find out how much the student knows
about a certain topic, and prepare remedial
programs aiming at the specific areas which
need to be improved.
Bahçeşehir Colleges has also established
our own Bahçeşehir TV as part of the technological
innovations in the LSA Model. We encourage
e-learning opportunities for our students
and give them a chance to review and catch
up on the school subjects. Each student
will be given a user name and password in
order to reach the video lessons. (www.bahcesehir.tv) |
